Flowers for a cold week

Happy New Year to everyone. Given we have had a really cold week here in North Carolina, I painted some flowers. They make me think of warmer times to come.

Growing Up on the Hudson

My sisters and I grew up in Malden on Hudson. Our house overlooked the Hudson River. I painted 3 identical pictures of our childhood house, and gave them to my sisters and myself for Christmas. The house is for sale with many changes from when we grew up, but this is what it looked like when I lived there.

I painted this painting for this year's Christmas card. I used Tiny Prints to build a card with this painting on the front. They printed them for me and it came out very nice. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

Seratoma Holiday Sale

North Carolina State Fair 2015

I submitted 2 paintings to the State Fair this year. My painting "Pears and Fruit" won 2 ribbons. It won first prize from the Society of Decorative Artists for the Experienced Category. It also won second prize from the state fair judges. I was quite honored that they liked my painting.

Shackelford Island Hike

We had a wonderful day on Wednesday hiking on Shackelford Island. There was very few people and lots of the ponies. I was able to get a lot of new photographs to paint. Always like doing these ponies.

Marlowe - my sister's cat

My sister has this really pretty cat. She was able to get a nice close up photo. She really liked the photo so I painted it for her birthday. The eyes came out really well and now follow her around the house.

Research in the Caribbean

Traveling in the Caribbean for vacation. Always a good opportunity to do additional research for ideas. Just visited San Juan yesterday and captured a little of the views from the old town of this great American city. Look for additional paintings with a caribbean flavor over the next couple of months.

Blue Iris Studio Grows

On June 2nd Blue Iris Studio moved to a larger booth in the Galleria. We add an additional local artist so now we are four artists with a friend who is showing some of her treasures on a table in front. Come in a check out our new space and the additional paintings we are showing.

The Galleria Grand Opening

On Saturday and Sunday I painted at the Galleria. I worked on this painting on Saturday, of orange lilies which I took at a park in New England. On Sunday, I worked on some giraffes which I took at the Pittsburgh Zoo. These paintings will soon be posted on my website and available at Blue Iris Studio.

The weather in North Carolina is finally getting nice. While walking on the beach I caught these seagulls just enjoying the nice weather. They looked like they were having so much fun, I just had to put them on canvas to celebrate.

Cold Weather Architecture Picture

With the cold weather over the last few weeks I was thinking about how nice this country cottage would be in the summer. I haven’t done any buildings lately so really enjoyed experimenting with the roof and spires. Makes me think of a lazy summer day.

Fun at the Beaurfort Art Walk

We had a wonderful time at the Art Walk on Saturday. These cards where given to everyone so they could find the different locations where Art was being displayed. I had the chance to talk with many of the people both artists and admirers throughout the afternoon. I enjoyed seeing all the other art being displayed and also the treats that each location had.

North Carolina State Fair 2013

This years fair was really good. I put in this picture which is a barn in North Raleigh near my home. I always enjoy seeing it and felt like it was perfect for the fair. I was able to get the picture from the bed of my husbands truck on a nice sunny day. I received many nice comments on the picture and was very happy that I was able to add enjoyment to their lives.

Spouter Inn Reception

Tonight we had a very nice artist reception at the Spouter Inn. There were about 30 people and several of the artists that are displaying their pictures at the restaurant. In the walkaway entering the Spouter Inn I have 3 of my pictures along the wall. They look quite nice hanging there. Hope everyone has a chance to stop by and see them.

Spouter Inn Update

This September they changed the pictures at the Spouter Inn. The new pictures will be there the rest of this year. I now have 5 paintings displayed there. One of them is this painting I took of some fishing boats in Beaufort, next to the draw bridge. It was a beautiful evening, the water was calm and the sun was hitting at the right angle.

Rocky Mountain National Park

I spent 10 days in the Rocky Mountains this summer. Was a really terrific trip and saw lots of interesting wildlife and scenery. Look for some paintings from the Colorado, Utah and Wyoming from this amazing part of the country. Was able to get a nice picture of this hawk flying over the mountains.

"Lonely Bicycle" - Beaufort NC

Starting tomorrow for the next 3 months several of my paintings will be shown at the Spouter Inn in Beaufort, NC. This is one of the paintings that will be shown. I like to walk along the waterfront in Beaufort. One day I came around the corner and found this bicycle just standing on the side of the boardwalk. If seemed so perfect sitting there on a nice summer day. I captured a photo and couldn’t wait to paint it. Please stop by if you are in Beaufort and have a look at my paintings.

The Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh is having its annual December show. I have two of my paintings there along with many of the other new artists in the Raleigh area. North Carolina State Fair 2012

I displayed this painting at the North Carolina State Fair. I hope many people enjoyed seeing this as they walked around the fair. This painting was inspired by my visit to Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia. The day was quite calm and the water was like glass. Look for more paintings from my travels to New England.

Showing of "Serenity over Sorrento"

During the month of September 2012 this painting was displayed at Seratoma Arts Center. My teacher was showing his work along with some of the students. This painting reminds me of when we used to visit Sorrento while we lived in Italy. The area is so peaceful and pretty, with open air restaurants overlooking Naples Bay.
